Qu​em sou?

Sou aquele que leva muito a sério, hoje, mais do que ​ontem, as literaturas africanas. Produzo literatura ​infanto-juvenil, prosa, poesia para gente graúda. Meu ​universo é o meu continente, África, onde as árvores ​sussurram segredos ancestrais e os rios dançam ao ​som das histórias de nossos antepassados. Gosto de ​falar sobre o quotidiano de gentes distantes ou ​próximas do que vivo, capturando a essência de cada ​olhar e cada sorriso que se entrelaça com a magia do ​cotidiano.

Não raras vezes, o realismo mágico é esse cânone ​que me ajuda a descrever e contar sobre o que ​acreditamos, pensamos e fazemos. É na sutileza dos ​gestos de uma avó que conta histórias de espíritos ​que habitam as montanhas, ou na risada contagiante ​de crianças que fazem as estrelas piscarem em ​resposta, que encontro inspiração. Em meus escritos, ​o comum se transforma em extraordinário, e flutuo ​entre os mundos, onde a realidade é o solo pátrio de ​sonhos e memórias, tecida com as cores vibrantes de ​nossas culturas sempre plurais.

who am I?

am the one who takes African literatures very ​seriously, today more than yesterday. I produce ​children's and young adult literature, prose, and ​poetry for grown-ups. My universe is my continent, ​Africa, where the trees whisper ancestral secrets and ​the rivers dance to the sound of our ancestors' ​stories. I like to talk about the everyday lives of ​people far away or close to what I live, capturing the ​essence of every glance and every smile that ​intertwines with the magic of the mundane.

Often, magical realism is the canon that helps me ​describe and tell what we believe, think, and do. It is ​in the subtle gestures of a grandmother telling stories ​of spirits that inhabit the mountains, or in the ​contagious laughter of children making the stars ​twinkle in response, that I find inspiration. In my ​writings, the ordinary transforms into the ​extraordinary, and I float between worlds, where ​reality is the native soil of dreams and memories, ​woven with the vibrant colors of our always plural ​cultures.
